The Early Years Learning Framework V2.0 reminds us that “thinking about sustainability means thinking about the future and acting to create healthy, just and vibrant futures for all” (AGDE, 2022, p.18).
In this 2 hour session, we will look closely at the brand new principle of sustainability in the Early Years Learning Framework V2.0 and consider how we embed it within our practice. We will develop a deeper understanding of rich Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander sustainable practices and how we can empower children to take an active role in caring for the environment and contribute to a sustainable future. You will learn how to engage children in concepts of social justice, fairness, conservation and reducing waste and how they can contribute and take an active role in promoting sustainable communities.
Participants will have the opportunity to:
- Consider why sustainability practices are important in early childhood.
- Develop an understanding of the context of sustainability in early childhood, including definitions.
- Consider behavioural change for sustainability.
- Identify and apply sustainable practices in early childhood settings.
- Explore ongoing critical reflection and review of sustainable practices in early childhood environments.
