Childcare Educator - Corinda

About the role

As our new Assistant Educator, it is your role to develop and maintain meaningful relationships with children, families, colleagues, and the centre community. You will be intrinsically motivated to support and guide children’s learning, while actively contributing to the creation of an inclusive and responsive educational programme in the Kinder room. You will be supported by your Centre Leadership Team in your new role, as you learn the fundamental skills of being an inspired educator within the Journey community.
 

Your main responsibilities will include:

  • Bringing the Journey Values of connection, communication and consideration to life and reflect this in everyday practice.
  • Ability to adhere to Journey’s child safe policy and code of conduct
  • Assisting with observations of individuals and groups of children
  • Assisting in the evaluation of children in terms of individual strengths, weaknesses, interests, and preferences, which is then used to design activities to be included in the programme.
  • Assisting with the program design, implemented, and evaluated in consultation with others to foster all aspect of children’s development in a holistic way.
  • Working as an effective team member and within the defined position description.
  • Seek and accept support from your Lead Educators, Educational Leader and Centre Manager
     

Role Requirements

  • Experience with creating a diverse, inclusive and responsive educational programme
  • A demonstrated commitment to providing a safe, caring, non-judgemental and supportive environment for all children and their families
  • A demonstrated ability to adhere to and understand the ECA code of Ethics and the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child
  • Demonstrated understanding of appropriate behaviours while engaging with children
  • Current Valid Working with Children Check
  • ACECQA approved Diploma or Certificate III in Children’s Services or, working towards
  • First Aid, Anaphylaxis and Asthma Certificates
  • Full working rights in Australia

About Corinda

Journey Early Learning Corinda is a modern, purpose built 90 place centre, catering for children from six weeks to six years old. Our centre features transitional indoor and outdoor play environments, perfect for play-based and child lead learning. Our environment is filled with natural resources which inspire and teach our little adventurers fundamental motor skills. Our centre features an alfresco dining area, water play area, sports field, multi-level fort, rock climbing wall, bike track and so much more to keep our children, educators and visitors inspired.

Key takeouts from the ACECQA workforce strategy

ACECQA has released Shaping our Future – a ten year strategy to ensure a sustainable, high quality children’s education and care workforce 2022-2031. This report is the culmination of a series of roundtables and consultation with the sector over the past year, initiated by State, Territory and Federal Governments as part of the Alice Springs (Mparntwe) Education Declaration. 

The ACECQA Workforce Strategy Report highlights the workforce challenges the sector faces and proposes 21 actions to address them over the next ten years. We share key takeouts and what we are advocating for as the findings are implemented.

A role model for leadership and inclusion — what we can learn from Karen Roberts

CELA member Karen Roberts, Manager for Children’s Services at City of Canterbury Bankstown, recently won a HESTA Early Childhood Education & Care award for Individual Leadership. In her 45-year education career she has encountered many challenges, but these have only served to clarify her vision as a leader and a champion for children's rights.
