Early Childhood Traineeship

  • Start your career in early education and care
  • Get qualified while getting paid!
  • Our benefits include extra paid leave, discounted gym memberships and wellbeing programs.

Working for Waverley Council you’ll be part of a friendly and supportive team environment which offers ongoing coaching, competitive above award rates, access to wellbeing programs such as our Employee Assistance Program and other benefits unique to the sector.

Our early childhood services are community focused and well established. Since the 1970s, Council has had a strong and unique involvement in services for children and families. Council runs high quality services including four Early Education Centres, a Family Day Care Service, and a Family Support Program.

Our Early Childhood Traineeship program provides a wonderful opportunity to start your career in early education and care in a fun, flexible and supportive environment.

We are seeking three new trainees to join our Early Education Centres in Bondi Junction & Bronte. Working a 35-hour week, which includes dedicated time for study, you will work towards a Certificate III qualification in Early Childhood Education and Care. Gain workplace skills and knowledge under the direction and support of a small team of passionate early childhood professionals.

This is a 12-month traineeship with the potential to transfer to a Diploma traineeship, or casual work upon successful completion.

As a trainee, you will learn to provide education and care to children 0-5 years, assisting with the daily program, interacting with the children in structured programs and play, assisting with room set-up and routine activities.

If you have an interest in working with children, are seeking your first step with a career in early education and care and would love the extra benefits of working in local government, then this opportunity could be for you.

How we can create meaningful connections between home and early education

Children bring a wealth of knowledge and experiences from home into early childhood settings. When educators recognise and build on these strengths, they create deeper connections that foster belonging, confidence, and continuity in learning.

This article explores how educators can strengthen these connections through a funds of knowledge approach, which is described in the EYLF as a virtual 'back pack' of a child's life experiences and knowledge that they bring to a service.
