Strathfield One Stop Child Care Service (S.O.C.C.S.) is looking for a full time Diploma Educator to join their team. S.O.C.C.S is a not-for-profit child care centre that cares for and educates for 85 children per day. We pride ourselves on providing the highest level of care and education in a safe, welcoming and nurturing environment. We are a great team with very low staff turnover, and we have exceptionally strong and trustworthy relationships with our families. We pride ourselves on our diversity and the strong sense of belonging we all have at the centre. 

S.O.C.CS. is located in Homebush, close to public transport with ample car parking facilities at the centre. At S.O.C.C.S. we offer high quality practices in Early Childhood education for children from 6 weeks to 5 years of age. Our highly motivated, qualified staff provide comprehensive programs for each age group. We are an extremely well-resourced centre with highly educated staff in which we pride ourselves on. Our centre has a very homely feel with nurturing staff who build beautiful relationships with the children and their families.  

The position is available now and ready to be commenced once the best applicant is found. 

We are seeking a Diploma Educator:

  • can program and plan for the children and families according to the Early Years Learning Framework and the National Quality Standards.

Essential Criteria

  • A Diploma of Children's Services
  • Current first Aid Certificate
  • Current Working with Children Check
  • Understanding of the National Quality Framework and EYLF

Opinion: Is it time to re-assess our relationship with digital documentation platforms?

Early childhood settings in Australia have seen a rapid rise in the use of digital documentation tools. As services work towards reducing their environmental footprint, these digital tools can be viewed as a holistic alternative platform for parent communication, documentation of learning and general information sharing with important stakeholders. 

Educator Meg Anastasi shares her views on the pros and cons of digital platforms for documentation and how we can reassert control by putting guidelines in place.

Workforce challenges: three member case studies

Our recent Early Childhood Education and Care Workforce Survey Pulse Check confirms what we have been hearing anecdotally through member calls and emails, that our workforce is in crisis, and that there are a number of factors exacerbating this. 

To further inform our advocacy, a number of our members have provided detailed information about their individual workforce challenges in order to further shine a light on what needs to be done, and how that changes depending on factors such as service type and location.  

Here we provide a brief summary of three of those case studies. Further details will be provided in an upcoming edition of Broadside.

What needs to be implemented now to help solve our workforce issues

We are incredibly excited about what recent announcements could mean for the future of our sector and for Australia’s children. However, if we don't start addressing the workforce challenges our sector is facing immediately, we run the risk of failing to meet the policy objectives of the historic early childhood education and care reforms.

“In order to secure the success of these new reforms, it’s vital that retention and recruitment strategies are implemented,” says Michele Carnegie, CELA CEO. “There are many and varied reasons that our workforce is in crisis, and while remuneration is one factor, there needs to be a broad range of strategies applied to start fixing the underlying causes now.”
