We run a range of professional development courses designed to inspire OOSH educators with the latest information and research on behaviour and development. Each hands-on workshop will equip you with meaningful strategies and program ideas with a focus on the highest quality education and care.
Our practical courses will encourage educators to reflect on the quality of their relationships with children and the impact these relationships have on children’s learning. Each course has been selected specifically for educators who want to understand more about the behaviour and development of children they are working with.

OOSH Don’t Forget to Play – Understanding play theory and using play interventions when working with children’s behaviour
What is play theory? Can educators use play as a successful behaviour intervention?
This hands-on interactive session will explore play theory, our interpretation of play and whether educators are choosing the most effective and ethical behaviour intervention strategies. We will also discover new ways to support children’s play narratives, imaginations and creativity.
This is an essential workshop for those wanting to better enable themselves to respond to behaviour through more playful interventions.

OOSH Under the Volcano – Understanding children’s emotions and behaviours, knowing how to respond, not react
Have you ever wondered what causes a volcano to erupt?
This session provides an overview of 9-12 year old brain development, theories of child development as well as hands-on, engaging activities that draw us into a child’s perspective on what’s occurring behind their behaviours. We will learn how to look more deeply at children’s behaviour and to think about what causes the eruption.
With a focus on middle childhood, this workshop provides realistic and practical strategies, this session is designed as a starting point for educators wanting to build their skills around understanding and working with children’s behaviour.

The OOSH Approach to Programming and Documentation
“Getting an audience is hard. Sustaining an audience is hard. It demands a consistency of thought, of purpose and action over a long period of time.” – Bruce Springsteen
So much of our time is spent planning and documenting children’s learning that sometimes we ask: who are we doing it for?
With a focus on documentation requirements for the OOSH sector, participants will have an opportunity to discuss their current methods and share ideas, inspirations and successes.
This interactive and thought-provoking workshop will identify who your audience is and how best to communicate with them. We will explore how to capture and sustain their interest while making your ideas, as well as the children’s ideas, visible.
QUALITY AREAS – 1, 4, 5, 6 & 7
Understanding Autism in OOSH
Play increases children’s interest in activities and other people. Play also teaches children how communicating with others can help, so they’re motivated to keep trying.
This practical and informative session will unpack how a play-based approach to supporting children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ADS) can build relationship and language skills.
QUALITY AREAS – 1, 3, 5 & 6
