Rattler - Issue 142 - April 2023

At a time when many new educators are being employed, and many existing educators are being promoted to leadership positions, this issue of Rattler includes some great articles focused on supporting new educators and leaders in our sector. “Theorists that inspire my practice” covers why it’s valuable to incorporate external concepts into our practice, with three sector professionals sharing which theorists most inspire their practice and how new educators can incorporate external philosophies. In addition, our assessment and rating spotlight explores how new directors can confidently position their service, including tips for preparing your team to feel confident on the day.

Michelle Cuthbertson, CELA facilitator and child/adult relationship expert, offers insight into how we can best support anxious children, while Early Childhood Teacher Meg Anastasi explores building empathy in early learning settings.

With the launch of the updated EYLF 2.0 shining a spotlight on inclusion, Meni Tsambouniaris of Diversity Kids shares how educators can view belonging through the eyes of the culturally diverse child, and we put a spotlight on CELA member Toronto Community Childcare’s continued focus on embedding cultural diversity and inclusion. Sining Ma, Sydney University Masters of Social Work graduate, provides highlights from her thesis on how a centre director fosters effective working relationships and teamwork, and we share summaries of relevant new research from Australia and around the world.
