What you'll learn

Leadership decisions shape the conditions in which children experience safety and well-being, build relationships and engage in learning. This session explores how leaders can ensure that the best interests of the child remain the paramount consideration in the way teams work together and make decisions across the service.


Participants will consider how this principle informs leadership, including guiding professional conversations, supporting staff practice and professional conduct, and navigating legislative and regulatory responsibilities.

This session will support you to:

  • Strengthen shared understanding of the paramount consideration within the team
  • Guide professional conversations that support child-first practice
  • Embed the paramount consideration across the culture and expectations of the service

Jen is an experienced early education and care professional who has worked across long day care, preschool, and outside of school hours care settings. Through her work as a facilitator, Jen has supported leadership teams to build capacity in reflective practice, quality improvement planning, leadership, and governance. She has also developed key resources to support understanding of the National Quality Framework in practice.
