What does school readiness look like and how can we support the child before, during and after they transition to school?

This two hour session will focus on children’s transitions to school, and how participants can support each child through this journey of change.

Overview

What you'll learn

Ensuring children are supported before, during and after their transition to school relies heavily on collaboration and is supported by your play-based programs and environments.

During this session, we will explore how to collaborate with children, families and schools to support each child’s transition into school. Participants will be provided with practical suggestions they can begin to implement into their educational programs and environments to support each child’s journey through this transition. Furthermore, we will unpack how school readiness presents itself as participants begin to consider, write, and develop each child’s statement of transition.

Note

Teachers in Victoria, QLD, WA, SA, NT, and Tasmania who complete this course will be provided with a certificate and are able to use this course towards their maintenance of registration requirements.

I would recommend this course to other centres to change their mindset from school readiness to transition to school. Ingrid

  • How can early childhood professionals ensure that their services are inclusive and equitable to all families?
  • Can children with additional needs from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds engage in the program at the same level as their peers?

Inclusion, equity and high expectations is a challenging topic for most educators, but there are many ways that we can change our practice to benefit all families and children attending our services!

This 2-hour-session will explore the concepts of equity, inclusion and high expectations, and help educators to reflect on these concepts and their current practice.
