This engaging session explores how everyday experiences lay the foundations for mathematical thinking and how educators can intentionally embed rich numeracy learning into play, routines and interactions.
Early numeracy is far more than counting to ten. It involves developing mathematical thinking through noticing patterns, exploring relationships, and making sense of quantity, space, measurement and problem-solving in meaningful contexts.
Together we will unpack what numeracy looks like in early childhood settings and why it matters. Participants will explore how children naturally engage with mathematical concepts through play, inquiry and everyday experiences, and how intentional teaching can extend and deepen this learning.
We will also introduce simple numeracy games and hands-on strategies that nurture children’s curiosity, strengthen communication, and support alignment with the EYLF learning outcomes.
Educators will leave with practical strategies, fresh ideas and increased confidence to create engaging, mathematically rich learning experiences that inspire young learners.
