This interactive 2-hour session will unpack self-regulation and children’s self-regulatory capabilities. Participants will deepen their understanding of emotions and learn how to be an 'emotion coach' to support children’s wellbeing, behaviour, and learning.

Overview

What you'll learn

Building children’s emotional self-regulatory capacity lays the foundation for children's positive social and emotional development. When children are supported to recognise and understand their own and others' emotions, they are better equipped to build empathy, develop resilience, engage in problem-solving, and navigate social relationships.

Highlights

Participants will:

  • Identify what self-regulation is
  • Build an understanding of emotions from a neurological perspective
  • Strengthen practice through an emotion-coaching approach to support children’s emotional development
  • Identify ways to embed emotional intelligence into daily routines, interactions, and learning environments.

Note

This course aligns to Standard 1 (Know students and how they learn) and Standard 4 (Create and maintain supportive and safe learning environments.) of the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers.
