Course overview
Approved providers in an early childhood education and care service have an ongoing responsibility under section 162A of the Education and Care Services National Law to ensure that nominated supervisors, staff members, and volunteers who work with children maintain current child protection training. CELA's course is structured across six comprehensive modules, designed to provide a thorough learning experience. On successful completion, early education professionals will gain a clear understanding of child protection legislation in NSW, including the responsibilities of mandatory reporters, how to identify significant harm and key risk factors, and what is required to create and maintain child-safe environments.
All course materials have been carefully developed using current research, designed by education specialists, and tailored specifically for the early education sector.
You will learn:
- Key concepts of child protection legislation, mandatory reporting and harm and abuse types

Detailed information about responding to disclosure and reportable allegations

How to support children and families who have experienced abuse and/or neglect

How to implement work practices that support the protection of children and young people

How to apply ethical and nurturing practices in work with children and young people
The course takes approximately six hours to complete, in addition to assessment tasks.
