Culture is a way of life, deeply connected to our identities, values, languages, and ways of knowing. In early childhood education, understanding and responding to culture plays a vital role in supporting children’s sense of belonging and confidence to learn.
This 2-hour session focuses on the Early Years Learning Framework V2.0 practice of cultural responsiveness and explores how this shift influences the daily work of early childhood educators and teachers. Moving beyond the idea of culture as simply “difference,” the session invites participants to reflect on culturally informed practices, experiences, and perspectives can be meaningfully embedded in pedagogy, environments, and interactions with children and families.
Designed to be practical and engaging, the session encourages educators to think reflectively, explore ideas playfully, and consider how they can work collaboratively with children, families, community, and colleagues to strengthen culturally responsive practice.
Participants will have the opportunity to:
- Broaden their understanding of the multiple ways culture is viewed within early childhood services.
- Explore the relationship between culture and children’s developing identities.
- Discover practical strategies for creating culturally responsive early learning environments that support belonging and meaningful participation for every child.
